The giant Dewlap goose is a mammoth breed of goose and should not be confused with the common Toulouse gray goose. This breed of goose is exceptionally docile and not aggressive like most geese. They may do a little hissing just to let you know they are here. They are relative a quiet goose too until it's feeding time. Then they let you know they are hungry.
We pride in hand raising our Dewlap geese, which even makes them a more subdued peaceful goose. They are truly a pleasure to have around.
Its huge blocky body and a large wrinkled dewlap below its chin characterize the Dewlap. The adult ganders usually weigh between 20 and 26 pounds. The females weigh a little less than 20 pounds on average. There are exceptions where some Dewlaps have weighed as much as 40 pounds.
The Dewlaps can lay as many as 40 eggs per years with exceptions being as many as 60 for the best-conditioned goose. It is somewhat of a challenge to get them to set and hatch their eggs.
These are the true aristocrats of the domestic goose family. If you want a stately proud goose, these are for you.
